Marshall Gates has been a certified Civil Trial Attorney since 1983. He was admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court in 1973 and before the U.S. Supreme Court in 1983. He was a member of the Sussex-Warren Public Defender Pool for many years.
Marshall Gates has served as a public defender, a municipal prosecutor, a township councilman, a state Superior Court arbitrator and volunteer court mediator and arbitrator. Additionally, Marshall served on the state Supreme Court District X Ethics Committee and as a special counsel to municipalities.
His experience runs the gamut from capital murder to traffic offenses.
Marshall Gates is an active member of the municipal and county community. He served as a member of the Roxbury Township Council from 1990 to 2003.
Marshall Gates is a member of the Roxbury Area Chamber of Commerce, served as the incorporator of many non-profit community organizations, is a former officer, director and president of the Roxbury-Randolph Lions Club, was an assistant scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America, coached youth sports and was active in the YMCA and other civic and charity groups.
Marshall Gates is a Master of the Worrall F. Mountain American Inn of Court and a member of the Morris County Bar Association, the New Jersey Bar Association, the New Jersey Association for Justice and the Council on Safety and Health. He is past president of Morris County Legal Services.
